WHAT ARE SA UNITED PLAYER PLACEMENT EVENTS (PPE)?
The player placement events expand over 3 days and they are designed for youth players from U11-U19 to play in front of the SA United Directors and Coaching Staff with the goal of being selected for a competitive team for the Fall 2023/Spring 2024 season.
The SA United Coaching staff will use these sessions to determine where the best fit is for the player based on their current ability and potential. Four pillars of the game will be used to determine the best level for the player. These pillars are Technical ability, Tactical understanding, Physical and Mental.
Many of the sessions we use in tryouts are staples from our curriculums, so it also allows the player and parents to get a feel for our training environment and methodology.
SA United has multiple teams at most age groups, so there is a lot of opportunity for players to be selected for a team.
Would you be able to take a look at my child prior to the PPE?
Yes, SA United Soccer Club has an event every Friday throughout July/August at our complex which players are invited to attend. Any new players interested in learning more about our club can also attend training sessions with an existing SA United team if available.
For more information, parents should contact Ivan at ivan.f@saunitedsoccer.com or Martin at martin.s@saunitedsoccer.com or call our offices at 210-599-4622.

How does the selection process work?
During the course of the 3 day event, our coaching staff analyze and work together to place players on a team that is suitable to their current ability level. Teams are formed with players of similar ability to maximize their development. Coaching staff are then able to place teams in the relevant divisions based on the level of the team. Players are evaluated on the four pillars: Technical (passing, receiving the ball, running with the ball, dribbling, shooting etc), Tactical (their understanding of the game, positional awareness and decision making), Physical (speed, agility, endurance, strength) and Psychological (focus, concentration, attitude, ability to interact with team mates). In the majority of the age groups, the club has multiple teams that allows the players the opportunity to play in a beneficial environment.
How do I know if my son(s) or daughter(s) have been selected for a team?
After the player placement event has concluded, and the coaching staff have met to finalize rosters for the new season, you will receive an email within 24-48 hours confirming what team your son or daughter has been selected for. The email will also include further information such as training details, who the coach of the team is, uniform information and how to register for the team. Please note that on receipt of the email communication, families have 24 hours to accept the invitation and register for the new seasonal year.
