Pre-season Preparations!Aug 19, 2014
We’ve been keeping busy this pre-season as we prepare for the upcoming fall season 2014! On August 11-14, 2014 we held our pre-season camp at the GVTC Communications Sportsplex. It was great to get back out on the fields and implement some new ideas and themes we are introducing this fall season. Each day had a different topic as we worked with the players on technical and tactical aspects; introducing these new ideas and working on developing our style of play.
On August 15-17 our U10-U15 players went to Residential Camp at Camp Eagle. It was a brilliant weekend of fun and team building as the players got to know each other and meet their coaches for the season.
On Friday August 15, the group checked in, settled into their cabins and then attended orientation to meet the Camp Eagle staff. After some team building activities and dinner, we went on a 1 mile night hike up a mountain. At the top of the mountain we had a bonfire, sang a few camp songs and then headed back down the mountain to the cabins.
On Saturday we started the morning by taking part in various fun activities including the zip line 3000, kayaking, arrow tag and exploring a large underground mine! We cooled off in the afternoon by using the Camp Eagle water activities including slides, swings and a giant blob; a floatable device that the players would jump onto to launch each other up in the air! The players then had some down time to prepare their cabin skit (a competition held each year between the cabins). After dinner the cabins acted out their skit to try and win the competition.
On Sunday we spent some more time taking part in the activities before leaving Camp Eagle after lunch. It was an amazing trip and a great way for our players to learn more about one another.
On August 16-17 our 98 Boys Gold, 98 Boys Silver, 97 Boys RIASA and 98 Girls Black attended the Austin Texans Elite Invitational at NEMP. It was a great event for the players as they stepped up their pre-season preparations; having the chance to play in competitive games to gain match fitness and work on new ideas. The 97 Boys RIASA and 98 Girls Black made the championship games. The 97 Boys RIASA lost on a penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie with Dallas Texans FW and the 98 Girls Black; despite putting in some excellent performances over the weekend, didn’t quite have enough to win the final. Both teams finishing in 2nd place.
Our 99 Boys RIASA participated in the Scorpions tournament on the same weekend in San Antonio. On Sunday the team had the chance to play on Toyota field, the home of the San Antonio Scorpions! It was a fantastic experience for the players to play on the same field as our local professional team and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
On August 23-24, we have team’s competing in the ACYSO Pre-Labor Day event and the Aggieland Friendship Cup. On August 29-September 1, we will have teams playing in the Plano Labor Day Tournament, Austin Labor Day Tournament and AAYSA Labor Day Tournament as we aim to finish our pre-season on a high going into the first round of competitive league games the following week.
